To make money online is pretty challenging for most people. Internet marketers implement various methods to attract buyers, including banner ads, text ads, pop-ups and pop-unders, freebies and many other gimmicks to lure the visitor to spend a buck. Much of it does not work. Much of it is so over utilized  that visitors simply turn a blind eye to all the gimmicks and concentrate only on the white pages of the articles. Or, if the ads are too annoying, they just leave the site.

Most visitors are now ad blind. They visit our sites much like a race horse with the blinders to prevent him see the horses on the left or right side of him. People develop tunnel vision when they are visiting our sites. They see the content but anything beyond the border, be it on the right or left side of the content, goes unnoticed.

Introducing an element of surprise into the content, be it a written page or  even a video, is a well known yet under utilized internet marketing tactic. Successful internet marketers, the ones that make the most money online, often use this tactic. These actions are not accidental as even the dictionaries link together the words “surprise”, “curiosity” and “wonder”.

In other words, a surprise stimulates curiosity and this in turn strips the mask of blindness. Hence, we take action, the exact response a successful marketer wanted us to take.

This is exactly what I experienced, when recently, I opened a promotional email. The email itself was well written (surprise!),  sounded very interesting and surprised me well enough to be curious to click on the promotional link. That is where the story of making money online with waltzing banners started to take shape.

To begin with with, I must admit that the sales page in itself was quite attractive and eye catching. As I began to read, all of a sudden a well executed skyscraper ad appeared on the left hand side of my screen and it slowly traveled across the screen to the right.

I was quite surprised. Like most people, I generally ignore ads but I have never seen such action before. It was not your typical pop-up ad. It was like a dance, a nonchalant, graceful movement traversing the page.

The ad stopped on the other side of my screen and as I was reading it, the ad rolled itself over and like a chameleon transformed itself into another form. It was fascinating.

My eyes followed the ad as it waltzed across the screen to the left. I was quite mesmerized. Now I waited for he next event. Was the action going to stop there? Did the ad have another trick up its sleeve? Sure enough, another transformation, and more of the story the ad was telling began to unravel.

A total of 4 transformation took place. I believe that it is the first time in my internet marketing experience that I stopped what I was doing and I was consciously awaiting for the banner ads to do their tricks.

While watching these ads I thought that the developer came up with a brilliant idea. I know that every little bit helps when we are trying to make money online. I could see how having such catchy ads could revitalize an internet marketer’s ad campaign by

  • Stripping visitor’s ad blindness on their site
  • Improving visibility and clickability of the ads
  • Rotating specific ads for specific advertisements
  • Using the ads to tell a story and capturing visitors’ imagination

These ads can be used as promotional vehicles for

  • CPA ads
  • Affiliate ads
  • Opt-in/Squeeze page
  • And more…

These waltzing ads are a novelty item. I have not seen anything like this before and chances are that my visitors have not see this either. I believe these ads are a good vehicle to help an internet marketer make money online by providing an element of surprise and curiosity. I imagine that over the years the novelty will wear off. In the meantime they could be used to the marketer’s advantage. Do you think such ads would help your bottom line? These ads were created by a simple to use WP Ad Genie plugin.

I wold love to hear your opinion. How did you find these ads. Do you think they are interruptive or do you think they would work in favor of the marketer? Please leave a comment below.
